THE BOOK'S OWN
Pictures
16 photographs, so the book can show you a picture behind words instead of describing one. They are the book's, not the library's — and every one of them is free for you to use too.
Exactly the decision it made about fonts, for exactly the same reason. The package's published files are src and the two subpaths; nothing under book/ reaches you. Scene names no picture, and never will — bundling one would make every site wear ours.
So this page is a credit list, not a media library. Take the files if they suit you; the licence below says you may.
The tone is what a picture does to text laid on it at full strength, which is only your problem with scene-clear and the faded variants. The default scene mixes all sixteen into the surface far enough that the reading inks hold, whichever you pick.
A concrete corridor with one seam of light.
Headland under weather, in black and white.
Black satin, folded.
Dark woven linen, close up.
Veined leaves, packed edge to edge.
Fog sitting on a treeline. Nothing in the top half.
A snow plain under the Alps.
A bridge running out into fog.
White marble, grey veins.
One leaf in a glass, on white.
A figure crossing white dunes.
Folded metal panels on a facade.
Curled paper, peach.
Coral ink opening in water.
Rolled newspapers.
Marbled endpaper, Rijksmuseum.
All sixteen are CC0 or public domain: free for any use, commercial included, with no permission needed and no attribution required. The names are here regardless, because a photograph somebody made and gave away is still a photograph somebody made.
One file holds the list — book/src/data/scenery.js — and this page is its only reader a person sees. Nothing states a credit by hand.
Sixteen WebP files, 640KB the lot. A scene sits under a film at about a fifth, so a background is the one picture on a page that can afford to be soft.
